General Questions
What is a Cubi?A Cubi is a unique one page website which anyone is free to create to market any Service they have to offer.
Your Cubi is placed on your local area map so visitors to the site can easily see all the services that are on offer in their neighborhood.
Your Cubi is designed to be kept simple so that users can easily see what services you provide without any distractions. On our MapView function, users can click on the Cubi, read all the details and contact the Cubi owner if they are interested in their service.
Your Cubi receives its own unique vanity address so you can use it as your main website if you don’t already have one. E.g. http://mycubi.com/JohnThePlumber
Through Cubi Call, you will also receive business leads whenever someone in your area needs someone with your skills and get a chance to bid on their custom, making it as easy as possible for provider and customer to negotiate and interact.
A 'Service' is an act that one person carries out for another person as opposed to goods which are real objects.
You can tell your friends about MyCubi.com easily by clicking here.
You may contact someone in customer care here with any issue you would like to bring up.
On each Cubi there is a link "Report this User"
If you click on the link and submit the form our customer care team will handle your request as soon as we can
There is no charge for joining MyCubi. We intend to keep everything free for most users and generate revenue from offering additional optional, extra services to those who want them.
- It is Free to sign up: Our mission is to create a really cool website which connects consumers and service providers instantly. History has shown with other websites that if you charge service providers a fee to sign-up it really limits the number of service providers who join the site, which creates a poor experience for the consumer.
- Free to receive leads: The reality of the service industry is that sometimes people put out requests for services that may never come about. For this reason, we don’t think it is fair to charge service providers for leads.
- We don’t take any commission if you win a job: What happens if the person cancels the job or doesn’t pay you? We feel charging a commission for jobs awarded through the site is too complicated and could end up with a large claims and customer care department.
We hope that by keeping everything free we will get lots of service providers and consumers using our site which will make us the leading website for consumer to find local service providers. We intend to make money on offering additional, optional services including:
- Background checks: Service providers such as construction workers and care workers have the option of paying for a background check performed by us. Once a contractor or care worker has passed the background check we will display an icon on their Cubi so consumers will know they have been verified.
- Text Message Alerts: For service providers who are away from their computer during the day but don’t want to miss a lead, they have the option of signing up for paid text message alerts.
- Preferential Listings: We will offer service providers preferential listings so that they will appear higher in the search results of our site for certain keywords and locations.
- Advertising: We will offer display advertising on our site
- Coupons: Soon, we will offer the facility for service providers to send out coupons to their target market via our site.
Creating Cubi Questions
What type of service can I create a Cubi for?You can create a Cubi for any type of service that you offer, from the more traditional services such as plumbing to the weird and wonderful - so long as it is not an illegal activity or adult service.
So whether you are an accountant looking for more clients or a student looking to do some errands, MyCubi.com caters to everyone.
Do I need to create two different Cubis?
If you have two very different skill sets you should create a Cubi for each service you offer to display your array of skills. For example, if you are a carpenter who also gives guitar lessons you need to create one Cubi for your carpentry services and an additional Cubi for your guitar lessons. This is to ensure that you receive leads for both your carpenter and guitar lesson skills.
The Carpenter Cubi receives carpenter alerts.
The Guitar lessons Cubi receives guitar lessons alerts.
There are several reasons why you need to create a Cubi in order to receive Cubi Call alerts:
You need to create a Cubi so we know what skills you have and what areas you cover. You will then receive customer alerts that are matched to your skills in your area.
When customers are deciding which service provider to choose they are able to click on their Cubis to access additional information and make an informed decision. They are able to find out more about you, read previous customer reviews, check photos etc.

Tips for creating your Cubi
Cubi NameChoosing your Cubi name is like choosing a website address. It is best to choose one that reflects the name or nature of your business.
This is the main overall category that you work in. For example, a mechanic would be under “Automotive” and a Building Contractor would be under “Trades people and Buildings”
Some people’s work categories fall under ‘gray areas’. If you are unsure which category you belong to you can suggest a new category.
As many people perform more than one service, you are allowed to choose multiple sub-categories. For example, a Handyman creating a Cubi may choose the following sub categories:
- Electrical Work
- Yard Work
- Carpentry Services
- Plumbing Services
This is where you get to introduce yourself to people visiting your Cubi. Tell them a bit about yourself and what makes you great!
You can add up to five photos to your Cubi. Photos not only make your Cubi look better, it also is a great way to showcase previous samples of your work to people visiting your Cubi.
Please tell us here of any additional services you offer. If someone requests a service, in addition to the sub-categories we will search through your ‘services offered’ section to see if you offer the service the person is looking for.
We understand that some users who work from home do not want to give their exact address. For this reason, we allow you to place your Cubi on the map at your nearest cross section. It is important that you choose a point nearby so people can see what services are being offered in their neighborhood.
In this section you tell us what size area from your place of business you are interested in receiving leads from. For example you may decide that you want to hear about any person looking for you skills within
- 5 miles from your place of business
- 10 miles from your place of business
- Any jobs that come up in your entire state
- Any relevant jobs that come up across the entire country
Once you have completed your Cubi it is a good idea to share it with as many people as possible so they know what you have to offer. You can share your Cubi with your friends
- On email
- Via Facebook
You can edit the settings on your Cubi at any time. You may wish to add more sub categories, services offered or adjust the area you receive leads from.

No! Some people prefer good quality over price. Some service providers are discount service providers; some are exclusive high end.

Barter
What is Barter?Barter is the exchange of goods or services for other goods or services where no money is involved in the transaction. So on MyCubi.com for example, an electrician may rewire a mechanics house in exchange for the mechanic servicing the electrician’s car. No money changes hands through the transaction. In another example a person may do something for someone in exchange for goods instead of real money e.g. they might weed someone’s garden in exchange for an old guitar they have.
Bartering is a great way to get stuff done on MyCubi.com. Today many of our wallets have tightened and MyCubi can be the fun way to use your skills and anything you have to still get something you want.
Tips for Bartering:
- Try and be fair when bartering so both parties get a good deal
- Try and give yourself an hourly rate for your work i.e. if you value your skill at $20 per hour, and you want to barter for a guitar worth $100, then 5 hours of work is a fair trade
- Try and confirm the barter deal before commencing
- Keep a good record of your barters. Treat it just as you would an actual sale
- Keep in good contact with the person you are bartering with, both during and after the trade.
- Have FUN!
The IRS states that "The fair market value of goods and services received in exchange for goods or services you provide must be included in income in the year received"
For example, if the value of the trade between the Mechanic and Electrician is $300, both must declare this in their tax returns and pay the tax on the transaction as if it had been a cash transaction.
For more information on the law regarding barter please check out http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc420.html
Unfortunately MyCubi.com does not get involved between two parties and their dealings. However, if you feel you have been treated unfairly you may write a review of your experiences on the other person's Cubi in order to warn future users.
You do not need to create a Cubi in order to barter goods but you must create a Cubi in order to barter services. This way, both service providers can see the skills, experience, qualifications and reviews of the other service provider before deciding if they want to do a skills swap.
Also, it enables both parties to write a review after the trade and we hope this system will encourage fairness between both parties.
